CANQATE-GIQAC PARTNERSHIP TO ENHANCE CAPACITY BUILDING WITHIN THE CARIBBEAN REGION

The Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) has partnered with the Global Initiative for Quality Assurance Capacity (GIQAC) to provide the following capacity building activities:

  1. Developmental and networking opportunities for members regionally and extra-regionally – which would allow members to share their experiences, agree on the harmonization of policies, systems and procedures, encourage and support activities hosted by CANQATE and establish formal linkages e.g. through the INQAAHE Members’ Forum; 2010 CANQATE Conference;
  2. Development of other internet-based knowledge-sharing and capacity-building tools for Quality Assurance (QA) – which would allow the effective use of the Information Communications Technology (ICT) to build capacity within the membership and disseminate information effectively – e.g. through the upgrading of the CANQATE website and strengthening of the clearinghouse facility at the Secretariat; and
  3. Training of Peer Reviewers to undertake QA evaluation exercises in selected countries of the Caribbean – which would expose the membership to the skills,, knowledge and understanding (competencies) required to undertake an effective QA evaluation – e.g. commencing first with a baseline study to determine the training needs for Peer Reviewers.

CANQATE takes this opportunity to thank the World Bank and UNESCO for its financial support and ready assistance towards ensuring quality enhancement within the tertiary education environment in the Caribbean.
