The Barbados Accreditation Council

Barbados Accreditation Council

The Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) was established in 2004 with two (2) broad roles, namely:
  1. The registration and re-registration of institutions offering post-secondary or tertiary education and training programmes of study; the accreditation and re-accreditation of programmes of study and institutions in Barbados; the recognition of institutions and their qualifications (which include conferral of titles of institutions and articulation); conducting of research aimed at enhancing the quality of post-secondary or tertiary education and training; and
The granting of Certificates of Recognition of CARICOM Skills Qualification to applicants who satisfy the requirements for recognition as skilled CARICOM nationals, and verification of Certificates of Recognition of CARICOM Skills Qualification granted to community nationals by other Member States.
The BAC is seeking to achieve its vision of assuring excellence and integrity in the post-secondary or tertiary education sector of Barbados.
The Barbados Accreditation Council hosted a Programme Approval Workshop on Wednesday, June 27 at the Hotel PomMarine (Hospitality Institute), Hastings, Christ Church from 8.30a.m. to 4.00p.m. The one day workshop, which was targeted at tertiary educational providers in Barbados, attracted approximately thirty-five (35) participants. The workshop sought to clarify the programme approval process, explain the programme approval criteria and provide participants with hands-on exposure with respect to developing a programme specification document. The participants’ feedback indicates that the workshop objectives were met.

Programme approval is a quality assurance process which assures that a programme is appropriately designed and structured; adequately resourced; consistent with the provider’s mission; and has stated learning outcomes and assessment strategies that are set at an appropriate level for the qualification awarded.

Ms. Yvonne Walkes, Chairman delivered Remarks at the Opening Ceremony. Pictured are some of the participants at the workshop.
